ANELLO Photonics Miniaturizes Navigation Systems for Unmanned Systems

May 27, 2026, Richard R. Burgess - Dr. Kirstin Schauble, Vice President of Systems Engineering at ANELLO Photonics, sat down with Richard R. Burgess, Senior Editor at Seapower Magazine, speaking about ANELLO’s advancement of compact, chip-scale inertial navigation systems for unmanned platforms operating in GPS-denied and contested environments.

The feature examines ANELLO’s SiPhOG™ technology, which integrates the core principles of traditional fiber-optic gyroscopes into a compact silicon photonics chip. This approach enables high-performance inertial navigation in a significantly smaller, lower-power, and more scalable form factor than conventional fiber-optic gyro systems, making navigation-grade performance more accessible for smaller autonomous platforms.

The article also highlights the relevance of ANELLO’s technology across unmanned aerial, surface, and underwater systems, as well as smaller maritime vessels that require reliable positioning, heading, and motion tracking when GPS is unavailable or unreliable. Additional topics include ANELLO’s Maritime Inertial Navigation System, X3 IMU, APFIT award, and integrations with autonomous maritime platforms including HavocAI’s USVs and BlackSea Technologies’ Chaser USV.
